Programs Designed to Reduce the Burden of Care
At Islands Against Cancer, we partner with Charleston Oncology to provide programs that bring comfort, connection, and confidence to patients and caregivers navigating cancer treatment.
Through our Navigating Cancer Care Pilot Program, eligible patients receive technology, educational resources, and compassionate advocacy at no cost. Every initiative is designed to make the cancer journey feel more manageable — helping patients stay informed, connected, and supported every step of the way.
The program is available to Charleston Oncology patients. Community members and outside patients can get involved by donating or purchasing through our shop to support the initiative.
iPad for Care
Loaned Technology for Better Care Management
Patients receive a loaned iPad customized for their treatment journey. These tools ensure patients stay engaged, organized, and supported — every step of the way. Each device includes:
• Patient medical portals: MyChart, MUSC Health, & more
• Pharmacy Apps: CVS, Walgreens, & others
• Plaud Note Device: An AI-powered wearable and app that records, transcribes, and summarizes doctor visits
• Google Workspace Account: Dedicated and secure cloud storage for notes, transcriptions, & shared caregiver access.
• Cellular Connection: Built-in T-Mobile service keeps patients connected anywhere

Our Technology Advocates provide personalized support to help patients navigate devices, applications, and digital healthcare tools with confidence. Advocates assist with:

• Troubleshooting and technical support
• Using apps that support treatment
• Ensuring every patient feels confident using the tools provided

Who Are My Angels
Survivor Support Platform
Created by local cancer survivor Robert Dorchak Jr., Who Are My Angels is a survivor-focused support platform built from lived experience.
The platform provides encouragement, community connection, wellness tracking, journaling tools, survivorship guidance, and practical support for individuals navigating life during and after cancer.
Because it aligns closely with our mission of empowering patients through technology and education, this resource is included on many of the iPads distributed through Islands Against Cancer.
